Catherine McDaniel, mezzo-soprano, has performed major operatic roles in Europe and the United States. Her professional debut occurred during the Festival Lyrique de Belle-Île-en-Mer, France, where she appeared as Niklaus in Les contes d’Hoffmannand Mercedes in Carmen. Dr. McDaniel also performed the role of Clarina in Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonioin the Teatro Accademico in Castelfranco Veneto, Italy. Among her roles are Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Giulietta in Les contes d’Hoffmann, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Lola in Cavalleria rusticana, and the title role in Carmen. Local operatic appearances include the inaugural performances of the Southern Plains Opera Ensemble (Così fan tutteand Pride and Passion: An Operatic Evening—both for past seasons of the Rose State Live concert series) and repeat engagements with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic’s Discovery Concert Series. As mezzo soloist in Verdi’s Requiem, she has sung with Maestro Murry Sidlin in his A Defiant Requiem, in addition to performances with Canterbury Choral Society, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, and the Fort Smith Symphony Orchestra. Further, McDaniel has appeared in performances of Handel’s Messiahwith numerous orchestras in Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri. Other oratorio credits include Honegger’s Le roi David, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, and the Oratorio de Noëlby Saint-Saëns. In May of 2009, she sang the Bach B Minor Masswith Canterbury Choral Society and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, and she performed as mezzo-soprano soloist in Bradley Ellingboe’s Requiemin the spring of 2017 – the fifth time she had sung this work. Prior to joining the voice faculty of the Bass School of Music (where she teaches studio voice and lyric diction), Dr. McDaniel spent over a decade as a member of the voice faculty at Oklahoma Christian University. Her current and former students maintain active performing careers on Broadway and national tours, and in companies such as Portland Opera, Sarasota Opera, the Seagle Music Colony, Bay View Music Festival, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, and Music Theatre of Wichita. They include finalists in auditions for the Metropolitan Opera and the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and a number have pursued advanced voice degrees at the New England Conservatory, the University of Missouri at Kansas City, the University of North Texas, and the Moores School of Music—University of Houston. She holds the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in voice, both from Stephen F. Austin State University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in vocal performance from the University of Oklahoma, where her dissertation was an analysis of Tales Not Told, a song cycle composed for her by Edward Knight. She was a Regional Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions in both the Midwest and Texas Regions and a winner of the Advanced Division of the Texoma Regional Auditions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Dr. McDaniel is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Mu Phi Epsilon, Phi Kappa Phi, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
Katie Bolding began her career as a blues-rock singer, guitarist and songwriter, touring the Midwestern United States, before transitioning to classical music. She completed her master’s degree in Opera Performance at the State University of New York at Purchase, where she sang the roles of Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Drusilla (L’incoronazione di Poppea) and the Daughter in Carissimi’s Jephthe. She made her professional debut with The Dallas Opera as Countess Ceprano in Verdi’s Rigoletto, while she also covered the role of Gilda. In 2010, Katie performed as a Chorister with the New York Metropolitan Opera and sang the role of Marzellina in the Washington State Bellingham festival of Music’s Fidelio. In that same year she performed as a soloist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Northeast Orchestra. She made her European debut in 2011 under the baton of Leo Siberski, as the soprano soloist in a concert tour of Mahler’s 4th Symphony. She also covered the role of Venus in a new production of Offenbach’s “Orpheus in der Unterwelt” with the Berliner Staatsoper. From 2012-2014, she was engaged as the ensemble Lyric Soprano in Germany’s Theater Gera - Altenburg where she performed the roles of Micaela (Carmen), Frau Fluth (die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor), Sophie (Werther), Axinja (Lady Macbeth von Mzensk), First Niece (Peter Grimes), Valancienne (die lustige Witwe), and Musetta (La Boheme), among others. Other roles performed include Olympia (les Contes d’Hoffmann), Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Colombine (Die Feuersbrunst), Maricousa (Toi c’est moi) and Mme. Herz (der Schauspieldirektor). Since 2014, Katie has sung full-time with the historic Berliner Staatsoper Chorus, where she was the first American female member. Solo appearances at the Staatsoper include Le Nozze di Figaro, Der Freischütz, and Gala Concerts. She has also appeared as the soprano soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate, and Vaughan-William’s Hodie. In 2011 and 2012, Katie traveled twice to China, where she performed Chinese operatic repertoire in concert at the National Performing Arts center in Beijing. In 2014, she was invited by the Britten- Pears Festival of England to take part in a Benjamin Britten Masterclass there. Katie has performed in master classes and concerts in Germany, Austria, the United States, Great Britain and China. Aside from her current engagements, she enjoys giving concert performances. Recent performances in Germany include the role of Despina in Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, a lieder concert, Mozart's Requiem, and a concert of the music of Leonard Bernstein. Upcoming performances: Mozart’s Exultate, Jubilate and Bach’s Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen with the Northeast Orchestra in Fort Worth, Texas and two gala concerts with the Jenaer Orchestra in Aschaffenburg, Germany.
André Chiang, baritone, touted by the Oregonian as “vocally commanding” brings his lyrical voice to repertoire spanning from Handel to Glass. Mr. Chiang’s recent engagements include King Melchior (Amahl and the Night Visitors) with Opéra Louisiane and returns to Mobile Opera as Schaunard (La bohème), Opera Birmingham as Belcore (L’elisir d’amore), and Pensacola Opera as Yamadori/Commissioner (Madama Butterfly). Previous credits include Young Galileo/Salviati (Galileo Galilei), Argante (Rinaldo), Falke (Die Fledermaus), and Ford (Falstaff), all with Portland Opera; Anthony Hope (Sweeney Todd) with Virginia Opera; Masetto (Don Giovanni), El Gallo (The Fantasticks), Morales/Le Dancaïre (Carmen) and Motorcycle Cop/Guard 1 (Dead Man Walking) with Shreveport Opera; Marco (Gianni Schicchi) with Mobile Opera; and Lancelot in the Young Artist Matinee of Camelot at the Glimmerglass Festival. Competition honors include Regional Finalist for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, finalist in the Liederkranz Art Song/Lieder competition, winner of the Grand Concours de Chant for French song, winner of the 59th NFMC 2017 Biennial Young Artist Award, and winner of the 45th NATS Artist Awards Competition. Mr. Chiang has been seen in concert as the baritone soloist in Carmina Burana with the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, and the bass soloist in Haydn’s Mass in d minor with the Northwest Florida Symphony. Mr. Chiang is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at Louisiana State University studying under Dennis Jesse and has been seen as Falstaff (Falstaff) and the Gamekeeper (The Cunning Little Vixen). Upcoming engagements for Mr. Chiang include St. Paul in Mendelssohn’s Paulus with the Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra, and Escamillo in La tragédie de Carmen with Louisiana Opera.
Megan Berti is a Houston-based mezzo-soprano who performs opera and oratorio across the country. She has performed several roles with Houston Grand Opera’s Opera to Go! including Hansel in Hansel and Gretel and Rosina in The Barber of Seville,. This past season she debuted with the Rec Room as the Mother and Witch in Hansel and Gretel and with Opera-tivo as Isabella in L’Italiana in Algeri and Concepción in Ravel’s L’Heure Espagnole. She also returned to Concordia University of Texas to sing the alto solo in Bach’s Mass in B minor. In 2016 she made her Houston Grand Opera debut as Female Emilia in Carlisle Floyd’s The Prince of Players, performed at Opera in the Heights as Angelina in La Cenerentola and Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus, and toured Europe singing Verdi’s Requiem with the Berkeley Community Chorus & Orchestra. Other recent roles include Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Flora (La Traviata), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Magali (Salsipuedes), Annina (Der Rosenkavalier), Amelia (Amelia), Mistress Quickly (Falstaff), Anne (To Hell and Back), and Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito). With HGO’s Opera to Go!, Ms Berti created and debuted Annamaria in The Pastry Princeand The Puffed-Up Prima Donna, as well as Mother/Nightingale in Rapunzel. She has performed in the Houston Grand Opera concert Music of Memory and Hope and toured Europe as a soloist for Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor and Dvořák’s Requiem with BCC&O. Other oratorio performances include Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mozart’s Requiem, Vivaldi's Gloria, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle, Berg's Sieben frühe Lieder, and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Missa Solemnis. She is the winner of scholarship awards from the National Federation of Music Clubs, Moores School, Texas Music Festival, Dramatic Allied Arts Guild, Fine Arts Affiliates, and received the Presser Award. Autumn West is a soprano originally from Chicago, Illinois. Her professional engagements have seen her perform with organizations such as Cincinnati Opera, Sugar Creek Opera, Grant Park Music Festival, Cincinnati Chamber Opera, Queen City Opera, Roundabout Opera for Kids Cincinnati, the Carnegie Theater of Covington, Kentucky, and the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin from Moscow, among others. Along with her work with Painted Sky Opera, West's 2017-2018 engagements include Messiah with Canterbury Voices and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Brahms' Requiem with the Kemp Concert Series, Bach Cantatas with Tactus Chamber Orchestra and Vocal Ensemble, a featured artist series recital on the vocal works of Leonard Bernstein at the Texoma Region NATS conference, and performances with The City Cabaret OKC. In addition to her performing, West is a committed music educator, serving on the voice faculty at the Wanda Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University, where she teaches a studio of undergraduate and graduate Musical Theater and Voice majors. Active in arts administration as well, in 2013 West co-founded Cincinnati Chamber Opera, a company devoted to showcasing rarely-performed operatic gems in non-traditional venues, presenting opera in a current, accessible, and relevant way. She currently serves as Executive and Artistic Director for this organization.
Rob Glaubitz (Director, Charlie cover) is one of the founders of Painted Sky Opera. When he isn’t directing opera for Painted Sky Opera, he can be seen at University of Central Oklahoma where he is Assistant Director of the UCO School of Music and Director of UCO Opera, for which he will direct Cosi fan tutte and Michael Ching's Speed Dating Tonight! in their 2018-19 season. Recent directing credits include: Painted Sky Opera – La Traviata, Tosca, La Canterina, Souvenir, The Medium, An Incomplete Education. UCO Opera – Serse, The Tender Land, Martha, The Impresario, Starbird, Amelia Goes to the Ball, The Telephone, The Magic Flute, Hansel and Gretel.
Zachary Van-Allen DeVault is a lyric baritone in the Edmond, Oklahoma area. DeVault recently graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Central Oklahoma, and began his Master’s in Fall 2017, also at UCO. He was previously seen in Painted Sky’s production of La Traviata last season, and his favorite opera, Tosca.
